How to take the Sound Check

The Sound Check takes about 5 minutes to complete and you can retake it as many times as you like.

What do I need to take the Sound Check?

  • You need a computer or tablet and your mobile phone
  • A quiet area to take the test

  • Once you’re ready to start, our automated service will call you with the next steps.
  • Once you begin, we’ll play you a variety of sounds, ranging in frequency.
  • You’ll find a series of instructions on your computer, which we will guide you through to complete.
  • That’s it! 5 minutes and you’re done. We’ll show you your personalised hearing profile.

Step 1:

To start the test you must first tick the consent box. When you are ready to start click the “Start the Sound Check” button.

The Sound Check will then give you some instructions on how the test will work and what you will need to proceed.

If you are an Audacious user: then you need to make sure that you are logged into your account while taking the Sound Check. If you are not logged in it will not be applied to your account. When logged in, click on the tab “My Sound Check”.

When you're ready to start click "Start the Sound Check". If you have a Sound Check already applied you will shown your Audacious Sound Dashboard. To retake the Sound Check click "Run the Sound Check".

Step 2:

You will then be asked for your year of birth, your gender and to answer the question “Do you find it difficult to hear on a mobile?”.

We ask these in order to send the correct frequencies to you during the test so please answer them accurately.

If you are an audacious user: Once you have taken the Sound Check for the first time, it will remember this information so you do not have to change it unless necessary.

Step 3:

You will then be asked for your UK mobile number. This is the number we will call to commence the test.

If you are an Audacious user: Your Audacious mobile number will already be inputted.

For the call to connect, you need to make sure that you have a good mobile signal. The Sound Check takes place in the form of a phone call, if at any point the line goes silent or drops out, it may be due to your connection. Sometimes, if the call is dropped or not answered, the Sound Check may be left as a voicemail.

Step 4:

Once the call has connected then you will be read some instructions on how to proceed with the test.

The text on the screen is the same as the voice on the phone so if you cannot hear the voice clearly then don’t worry. Once you are ready to start the test then click the ‘next’ button.

Step 5:

The Sound Check will then make sure you are ready to start. When you are ready click the “Click here button” and the test will start straight away.

Whenever you hear a sound click the button which says "tap or click here" which will flash green to register a click.

Step 6:

Once this has finished you will be able to adjust the volume to the level which suits you best.

The voice on the phone will be adjusted whenever you make a change, so you can click through the options and settle on the one that you like.

Step 7:

You will then be shown your personal hearing profile. This looks a bit like an Audiogram; it shows your level of hearing over the phone according to the Sound Check and the frequencies you were played.

If you are happy with this hearing profile then you can continue. If you would like to try the Sound Check again then click the "Start Again" button.

Step 8:

If you are not an Audacious user:

You will then be able to hear the difference between the Audacious call, a call with your hearing profile applied, with the sound of a standard call, what you are experiencing during calls currently.

Click between the two buttons and the voice on the phone will flip between them.

If you are an Audacious user: You will then be able to hear the difference between a standard call, your current Audacious Sound (the sound of your current hearing profile) and the sound of the newest hearing profile.

If you prefer the Sound of the newest profile then you can apply it to your SIM by clicking “Apply new Sound Check to your account”.

Step 9:

If you are not an Audacious user: If you would like to send yourself a copy of your personal hearing profile, then you can do so after the test.

Just fill out the form and we will email a copy of the profile to you. You can retake the Sound Check as many times as you like.

If you are an Audacious user:

At the end of the Sound Check you will be redirected to your Audacious Sound Dashboard, this shows you the date of your last applied Sound Check, the date of the last logged in Sound Check you took. As well as if your Audacious Sound is turned on or off.

You can also adjust the volume of you calls at any time you like. You will receive a call, like during the Sound Check, and it will allow you to adjust to a different volume.
