Hi I’m Ryan, I'm 23 and a sales advisor.  I am one of the 11 million in the UK with hearing loss. Since the age of 3, I have worn hearing aids in both ears after being diagnosed with moderate to severe hearing loss.

Throughout my life I have never been able to communicate clearly over any phone without use of speakerphone or headphones. I have never really been able to have a personal call. I have never been able to just pick up the phone in a crowded environment and have a conversation.

I have also had people ask me to take them off speakerphone as they can hear themselves and it is making it difficult to understand what is being said, which instantly makes me feel uncomfortable. All this and so much more, has lead me to avoid calls or quickly run to a quiet place; when it would only be fair if I could just pick up the phone and have a conversation.

What’s worse? I had accepted that this was going to be the case throughout my life.

Since joining Audacious, I have fortunately been able to experience the difference this technology makes, both with and, most shockingly, without my hearing aids. I have had my first phone call without speakerphone or headphones. I have gone from having no clue what people are saying, to hearing every word clearly without my hearing aids. 

For work use, it helps me to come across more professionally, people aren't asking me to turn off speakerphone. I can hear information much more clearly, for example, I always know what time a meeting is and I'm not always asking managers to repeat information. Also, I'm not as tired at the end of the day, I don't have to put so much energy into making phone calls at work.

I am excited to be using this innovate technology and I encourage other people who experience the same issues as me to use Audacious. It can really help people experience normality and a sense of inclusion, like I have. But I am incredibly happy because it has truly made a difference to my life and I have no doubt it will for others too.
